Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
About the team
Dive-XL is Anduril's extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), built for ultra-long range and large modular payloads. It is the vehicle behind Ghost Shark, which we build in Sydney for the Royal Australian Navy.
We are now setting up the first U.S. Dive-XL production line at our 150,000 square foot campus in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. Designs and manufacturing BOMs live in Siemens NX and Teamcenter. Routings and digital work instructions live in ArsenalOS, our in-house MES, and materials and orders run through Oracle ERP.
About the job
This is a senior manufacturing engineering role focused on mechanical systems. You will be the first call when the Dive-XL line has a mechanical problem, and the engineer who makes sure it stays fixed. You will own how major structures are built at Quonset, from first article through rate production, working with design, supply chain, quality and the technicians on the floor.
If you are tired of legacy bureaucracy, you will feel the difference here from day one. The line is new, so you will set up its processes from the start, with the autonomy to help make Quonset a world-class production site.
You do not need subsea experience. We are looking for deep mechanical and production experience, and we will teach you the vehicle.
What you’ll do
- •Lead root cause on assembly problems, process deviations, tooling failures and nonconforming parts, give the engineering disposition in MRB, and build the fix into the process
- •Be the first point of contact for technicians and supervisors on mechanical build issues, and get line-down problems resolved quickly to hold schedule
- •Cut in engineering changes on the floor: update the manufacturing BOM in Teamcenter and the routings and work instructions in ArsenalOS, decide what happens to work in progress, and brief the technicians
- •Own the work instructions and SOPs for your assemblies, written so a technician can build from them without you there
- •Design fixtures, lifting equipment and assembly tooling for large, heavy structures in Siemens NX, and print jigs and shop aids in-house to cut cycle time and improve ergonomics
- •Track yield, throughput, scrap and labor hours, find the trends, and lead the projects that fix them
- •Lay out workstations and material flow as the line comes up, and specify, procure and commission the heavy equipment, robotics and automation that cut waiting, extra handling and rework
- •Drive DFM and DFA with the design team before drawings are released, and push back on unbuildable features with build data
- •Use AI coding tools to build Python scripts, dashboards and small apps that take manual steps out of daily work; you do not need to be a software engineer
- •Mentor early-career engineers and technicians on build methods, tooling and root cause
- •Travel to our Sydney factory when the work calls for it
