How to get in at this plant

Five moves over a week or two. The first one takes ten minutes.

  1. 1

Pick 2–3 people on the Manufacturing team at Teradyne

Engineers who joined in the last year or two reply the most. Use the team search on this page to find them.

  2. 2

    Send a short, curious note

One real question about their work. No favors yet. Each person gets a different note, written for this role.

  3. 3

Turn a reply into a short call

Questions worth asking about this team:

    • What does a normal week look like on your team?
    • Is the work mostly new product launches or sustaining existing lines?
    • How much time do you spend on the floor versus at a desk?
    • How did you land the job? What stood out in your interviews?
  4. 4

Apply with someone vouching for you

If the call went well, ask whether they’d pass your résumé to the hiring manager. Send your résumé link, apply that day, and let them know.

  5. 5

    Bring proof to the interview

One page of before-and-after numbers from projects you led: scrap, OEE, cycle time, cost. Plant managers hire on results.

Opportunity overview

Teradyne's Compute Test Division (CTD) develops semiconductor test instrumentation, platforms and integrated test-cell solutions for advanced compute devices. We are seeking a Senior Hardware Engineering Manager who manages our DC / power instrumentation hardware team and, in the same role, serves as Technical Project Leader for its most complex programs. The role is based in North Reading, MA, and spans concept through production release and lifecycle transition.

You will be accountable for the overall product and engineering success of these programs: competitiveness, time to market, development cost, cost of goods, quality, reliability and customer readiness. You will lead the hardware engineers who design the product directly. You will lead the wider team (software, FPGA, systems, mechanical, calibration, verification, manufacturing and operations) through influence rather than reporting authority.

In this highly visible role you will co-lead each program with a Program Manager in CTD's "two-in-the-box" model. You own product and technical success; the Program Manager owns planning, schedule, budget, scope and governance. Success requires the curiosity and systems perspective to work beyond your own specialty, see the entire system, align diverse teams and make timely trade-offs.

Product and business leadership

  • •Own the overall success of assigned DC / power instrumentation programs, including competitiveness, time to market, development cost, cost of goods, quality, reliability and customer readiness.
  • •Define and drive the product vision, roadmap and strategy, aligned with business goals, customer use cases and the product's contribution to the broader CTD portfolio.
  • •Act as the primary product advocate with Product Management and field teams, translating market and customer needs into clear engineering objectives and product requirements.
  • •Balance performance, quality, cost, manufacturability, serviceability, reuse, scalability and schedule when making product decisions.

Technical and team leadership

  • •Lead the hardware engineering team as its manager: hire, coach and develop engineers and product team members, and direct them so they can achieve product goals. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • •Establish and communicate the overall technical vision, product architecture, integration strategy and development approach.
  • •Lead major technical trade studies and decisions across hardware, software, FPGA, mechanical, thermal, calibration, signal delivery, automation and manufacturing.
  • •Ensure subsystem

Program execution

  • •Co-lead the core team with the Program Manager and maintain joint accountability for an executable, high-confidence plan across multiple concurrent projects.
  • •Drive technical execution across all contributing functional groups, keeping the focus on the overall product rather than any single discipline.
  • •Lead technical design reviews, integration reviews, readiness reviews, phase-gate assessments and recovery planning.
  • •Make or drive timely decisions on priorities, scope, technical direction, dependencies and resource deployment, and direct engineering resources to where they are needed.
  • •Ensure execution conforms to applicable development, quality, safety, regulatory and lifecycle processes.
  • •Champion best practices in product development, from

Risk, opportunity and change management

  • •Identify technical, integration, supplier, resource, quality and execution risks early, and make sure they are tackled up front and actively retired rather than at the end.
  • •Define mitigation, contingency, learning and verification plans before risks affect critical commitments, and ensure they get executed.
  • •Identify opportunities to improve schedule, cost, product quality, reuse, team effectiveness or competitive differentiation.
  • •Partner with the Program Manager on disciplined scope and change control, and communicate impacts to stakeholders.

Cross-functional and stakeholder leadership

  • •Build alignment across Engineering, Product Management, NPI, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Applications, Service and business leadership.
  • •Beyond your own team, lead through credibility, influence, collaborat
