How to get in at this plant

Five moves over a week or two. The first one takes ten minutes.

  1. 1

Pick 2–3 people on the Quality team at SpaceX

We found 2 people at this company and state: 2 on the team, plus 1 likely hiring manager. Engineers who joined in the last year or two reply the most. See them ↓

  2. 2

    Send a short, curious note

One real question about their work. No favors yet. Each person gets a different note, written for this role.

Turn a reply into a short call

Questions worth asking about this team:

    • What does a normal week look like on your team?
    • Which standards drive the work here: ISO 13485, IATF 16949, AS9100?
    • How much of the job is customer complaints versus prevention?
    • The posting says about 25% travel. Between which sites?
    • How did you land the job? What stood out in your interviews?
  4. 4

Apply with someone vouching for you

If the call went well, ask whether they’d pass your résumé to the hiring manager. Send your résumé link, apply that day, and let them know.

  5. 5

    Bring proof to the interview

One page of before-and-after numbers from projects you led: scrap, OEE, cycle time, cost. Plant managers hire on results.

About the role

Responsibilities

  • ◆Own end-to-end supplier development for the silicon, wafer, and packaging portfolio within the Starlink User Terminal Bill of Materials, spanning strategic supplier selection, new product introduction, qualification, production ramp, and reactive quality support
  • ◆Engage early with suppliers on selection, equipment selection, and process engineering to properly set up high-volume manufacturing programs by ensuring material and process corners are fully characterized and completed
  • ◆Provide technology guidance to cross-functional teams on front-end process node selection such as 7 nanometer, 5 nanometer, and 3 nanometer complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technologies, as well as back-end packaging technologies including flip-chip bumping, wafer-level packaging, fan-out, 2.5D and 3D integration, and system-in-package solutions
  • ◆Assess supplier manufacturing capabilities across front-end and back-end processes, including wafer fabrication capacity, process stability, equipment suitability, process windows, yield learning, and overall technical readiness for high-volume silicon production including wafer fabrication, dicing, bumping, assembly, and packaging
  • ◆Lead new product introduction activities, production part approval process, first article inspections, production rate ramps, and reliability campaigns to enable full-rate, high-volume manufacturing of wafers and packaged devices
  • ◆Develop and execute robust qualification plans covering front-end, back-end, and test, including wafer-level reliability testing, package qualification, high temperature operating life testing, highly accelerated stress testing, thermal cycling, electromigration testing, and full silicon test coverage validation
  • ◆Create and standardize qualification protocols across the silicon supply base, including equipment buy-off checklists, factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, and consistent reliability demonstration methods for both wafer foundries and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test suppliers
  • ◆Drive supplier performance improvement through Lean methodologies, supplier scorecards, process audits, and systematic problem solving to deliver measurable gains in quality, cost, yield, and on-time delivery
  • ◆Perform reactive quality engineering support, including rapid containment, root cause analysis using eight disciplines and five-whys methodologies, and corrective actions for quality escapes, field returns, and production issues
  • ◆Own on-time delivery of qualification and production ramp activities while continuously monitoring field performance, reacting quickly to issues, and feeding lessons learned from field data back to design and process engineering teams for iterative product and process improvement
  • ◆Partner closely with Silicon Design Engineering, Test Engineering, and Production teams to ensure supplier front-end, back-end, and test processes and manufacturing capability align with Starlink’s high-volume product
