Your game plan for this job

Most people just hit Apply. Do these first and you show up with someone on the inside.

  1. 1

Find 2–3 people on the Manufacturing team at this site

Engineers who joined in the last year or two reply most.

  2. 2

    Send a short, curious note

Ask about the work, not for a referral. We write it for you.

  3. 3

    Have a 15-minute chat

    Good questions for this role:

    • What does a normal week look like on your team?
    • Is the work mostly new product launches or sustaining existing lines?
    • How much time do you spend on the floor versus at a desk?
    • The posting says about 50% travel. Between which sites?
    • How did you land the job? What stood out in your interviews?
  4. 4

    Apply, ideally with a referral

Ask if they'd refer you or introduce you to the hiring manager. Send your résumé link and tell them the day you apply.

  5. 5

    Bring proof to the interview

One page of before-and-after numbers from projects you led: scrap, OEE, cycle time, cost. Plant managers hire on results.

About the role

The Role

As a Fluid Power Manufacturing Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for the design, development, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of pneumatic, hydraulic, and related fluid-power systems used in press and automation equipment across GM manufacturing operations. You will work with plant personnel, manufacturing engineering, controls engineering, maintenance, suppliers, contractors, and other technical partners to develop reliable and safe fluid-power solutions. The role will focus on applying engineering fundamentals and hands-on problem-solving to improve equipment safety, uptime, quality, maintainability, energy efficiency, and overall manufacturing performance. This position is well suited for an early-career or high-potential engineer who wants to build deep expertise in industrial fluid power while contributing to complex stamping and automation projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate curiosity, initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to learn quickly in a plant environment.
